Adult Day Care Project
"There are only four kinds of people in the world: those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers,
those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers."
The Friends Place Adult Day Care project is committed to developing an adult day care program in Menomonee Falls
to improve the quality of life for persons aged 50+ who have a cognitive impairment such as dementia, physical incapacity or developmental disability.
An adult day care provides a safe, supervised daytime program five days a week that provides compassionate care, socialization, physical activity, and interaction that is both engaging and stimulating.
Adult day care provides respite to caregivers and the adult day care is typically selected by the caregiver.
Adult day care supports the dignity and independence of participants so they can reside in their own home or in the home of loved one instead of moving to assisted living or nursing home care.
The Friends Place project is dedicated to providing an adult day care program in Menomonee Falls. In all of Waukesha County, there are only two adult day care centers serving the elderly with dementia or other impairment.
Ten thousand baby boomers turn 65 each day, and 24.9% of the population in Menomonee Falls is over age 60. Our population is aging, and the costs for care are increasing.
The average daily rate for adult day care is $69 (8-10 hours). That is less than 1/2 the cost of assisted living, 1/3 of home care and almost 1/4 of nursing home care. Adult day care is also far more affordable and therapeutic when compared to the cost of in-home care at an hourly rate of $18-24 per hour.
Our Caring Community
A sign of a healthy community is shown in how it cares for its weakest members. Menomonee Falls enjoys a rich tradition of caring for seniors in need. For 26 years we supported an adult day care, and after it closed in November 2016, the Friends Place project has devoted efforts to reestablish a caring, sustainable adult day care program once again.
